The first and the oldest; Ali Mall
There are several malls around Quezon City, but none of them hold the history that Ali Mall has. As the first mall in Quezon City, Ali Mall was the first major shopping mall located in the Philippines. In the 1970's, there were no malls in Quezon City, not even around the Philippines. So in the 1970's, when world famous boxer, Muhammad Ali won his battle against Joe Frazier. As a result, he gave a speech saying that a mall be built in honor of his victory. Built in 1975 and opened in 1976, the Muhammad Ali Mall or now known as Ali Mall serves as the first and oldest mall in the Philippines.
Located in Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City, Ali Mall offers a different leisure experience, mixing shopping and dining with a little bit of history. Since the 1980's, renovations and expansions have been on going to be able to preserve and evolve Ali Mall. In 2009, it was reopened with a world-class shopping experience, a variety in food outlets and choices and improved movie cinemas. Improved landscapes, wider side walks and a more inviting leisure environment are also part of Ali Malls make over.

Before the fully air-conditioned, spacious and clean Ali mall, there was the filthy and tattered Ali Mall that was not maintained. There was no cinemas, it was not fully air-conditioned and the number of stores back then was very disappointing. It was often dirty and there were a lot people, which made it dangerous if you're alone.
After...
Since the renovation Ali Mall did a 360 and reinvented itself as the first and the oldest mall in the country. Although compared to other malls, Ali Mall is quite small, there is a wide variety of places to eat, shop and things to do. There is over 100 stores and restaurants to choose from. It is fully air-conditioned, clean and well decorated and lit. The safety of customers is now assured because security has also become such a big priority.

Ali Mall isn’t as extravagant as other malls, it’s simple but its history holds a lot for us Filipinos to be proud of. Yes, the fact that it is the first mall of the country also makes it exciting but its renovation and improvements also make it a better place to visit for leisure. Found within the busy streets of Araneta Center, Ali Mall is a great place to get away from most of the people in Cubao. It isn’t too noisy and there are great choices of food and shops are top of the line. There are also many places you could go to just to work or get your mind off of things. So come and visit the Ali Mall!
